There are those rare times when you are away from home and all the accompanying Sunday meetings and duties. After early morning church at the Lahaina 1st Ward, we had some serious free time on our hands today. After watching movies and growing stir crazy, Denise and I talked three reluctant kids (Olivia is always willing to come along, unlike the J-Bros) into taking an "adventure" walk along some of the rougher shore areas in Kapalua.
They are rough but oh-so beautiful. Even better, we had the place practically to ourselves. Jack was a little freaked out with the strong winds and tumultuous surf but even he had a great time discovering some of these hidden treasures.
This area of Kapalua is called the "Dragon's Teeth" because of the way the lava has been etched away. Salt has bleached the lava white and left it in some very intriguing shapes.
FOLLOW THE LEADER! In this case, it is Jack.
The big boys thought it was great to get as close as possible to the incoming surf. We would occasionally call out to them when a big wave was coming in and they would scamper to high ground.
The beautiful Oneloa Bay almost deserted. Just another day in paradise!
Olivia loves the camera and it loves her back. She posed patiently for one picture after the next. Jack and I would call out when the waves were coming in so Denise could get the ocean spray in the background just right. She is growing into a beautiful young woman right before our eyes (Olivia that is; Denise has always been beautiful) .

Although I am probably getting the spelling wrong on the plant below, it has 4 consonants, 6 vowels and sounds like something a a farmer might do to replace a lost gardening instrument; pupuanuhoe or something like that. Denise would somehow like to transport this (and about 30 other plant species) back to the desert with us. Her love of the coast continues and her longing for the days that she can spend more times seaside is growing exponentially.
