D.C. adventures

Scot had business back East.....so I decided to join him once he was done.
We spent a long weekend together, touring this great city.

We started off at Mt. Vernon, George Washington's home.
This is the view of the Potomac off his back porch.

Back porch.

We did the whole audio tour which was so awesome to get a whole perspective that felt real.
What a great man.  What a great family.  What a great society they had here.

The farming on this land was incredible.

We walked and walked several miles a day!  15 miles was a minimum each day.
Walking up to the Lincoln Memorial.......wow, I never realized how huge everything was!

Finally arrived.  Breathtaking.

We have such a better appreciation for the History, the people, who helped shape our country.

The capitol.  Once again it was much bigger than I had ever imagined it was.
We kept saying, "take this picture, here" but when you'd pull the camera up and look through the lens it just didn't do it justice for what we were seeing.
These will just be a reminder to us of what we saw.

The leaves, trees, and general smell were all a part of the experience.
I kept saying, "can't you smell the pine?"  It smelled like fall.

Inside the dome of the capitol.

One of my favorite things to do in these cities we visit is to see where and how the people live.
Here is a neighborhood street.  Much different from mine back home.
The people interest me.  I love the diversity.

Fell in love with where they live.

Fell in love with their sidewalks out in front of their homes.

Here is something random we came across while in this amazing neighborhood.
Wow.  So majestic.  They say it's a school/church.  The schools are private and really expensive.

Along with seeing how they live, and where, we got to eat so much good food!
Among many things, some of the best hummus we've ever had.

Viewing the White house at night.

We did visit the Smithsonian institutes many museums.
This was at the zoo.  This zoo is a series of pathways strung out through strolling hills with tons of trees and foliage.

I couldn't get over the fact that these flamingos could live in this climate.
Brrrr.......

We made a very solomn visit to the Holocoust Museum.
The images of those victims will be forever etched into my memory.
No pics are needed.
