Joy....no, not the dish soap; it's the pure unadulterated love, fun and happiness that comes from being surrounded by the one'swe love the most.

We arrived a few days before Christmas to this scene.

We decided to spread Christmas cheer "Elf style". We spent some time decorating the cabin with our unique snowflakes.
The dangling from the bar area was Olivia's idea.

We really went to Midway to GET AWAY and just be US.Scot took the older kids one day tubing at Soldier Hollow. Jack and I hung out. He spent some time reading his Magic Tree House books. He found this hat that we had left a few months prior. He really had a great time posing.

Much of our time was spent hibernating! It was a bit cold to our Arizona bodies. Blood is too thin. Well, I am speaking for myself. The kids enjoyed sledding in the backyard, building a snowman, eating icicles, and posing for Mom when she could bring herself to come out. WOw now I really get why the elderly spend most of their time in the warmth! I hate being cold!!!I decided that it is all "Perspective" and "relativity" on how cold it really is. I so appreciate our Gilbert weather! The fact that I thought it was cold when we left causes me to think about "perspective". WOW.
The first part of the stay we got a snow storm. That made for some warmer temps. But, then the cold (-6) degrees followed. Jack didn't mind a bit. It took about 30 mins. to bundle the lad just so he didn't mind. :) By then I had broken out in a sweat .......so going out for a minute or two to snap some shots cooled me right off!
One of the greatest parts of going to Midway is the ice skating rink. The kids love it. This was Jack's first year attempting the sport. He really took to it.

Eating the snow as it fell. As you can see this was a warm period during the beginning part of the storm. No coat. I mean warm being 20-30 degrees. This was warm from the negatives that followed.

Olivia recieved a "Paula Deen" cook book from her Grandma Porter. She just about baked everything in there! She was pretty great with all the mixing and measuring. She wouldn't listen to her Mom tell her that putting some muffin liners would help the clean up part. She said it wasn't part of the instuctions. So guess who got to clean this mess? They were really good blueberry muffins......what we could dig out! Oh well, next time Chef Olivia.
Jack had so much fun anticipating SANTA. He was very specific about leaving him some brownies and milk the night before. He also wanted to go to bed at 7:00! We hadn't been getting to bed until 11:00 - midnight! He was just so excited to get going with it so Santa could come. The next morning he woke and ran out of the room. I looked at Scot and said "do you think he remembers we all go out together?" He did come back to tell us that he wanted to see if Santa had eaten the goodies and that he had. After gathering everyone to head downstairs we stopped to see that the REINDEER had pooped on the back porch. Slowly making our way down yet another flight of stairs to the basement we could see the chairs that Santa had arranged. Jack's first ....and so forth. Jack sat down for 1-2 seconds when he said "MOM, I am going to barf" over and over until he just got up and ran to the nearest bathroom. He sat there for a while. Never did anything. I told him he was on OVERLOAD. Too much Santa sightings. He found his way to the chair of gifts about 5 mins. later.

We had a wonderful day just lounging and eating. Scot's parents came up to visit and have some lunch with us. Catching up on life and playing games. What a wonderful memory we will cherish of our week in MIDWAY. Good times. We headed home a few days after Christmas to SUNNY Gilbert. Ringing in the New Year amongst the much needed WARMTH.
